Iron Rice Cereal with Veg Purée

  • 2 tbsp iron-fortified baby rice cereal
  • Breast milk or formula to mix
  • 1 tbsp pumpkin or carrot, steamed & puréed
  1. 1Mix the rice cereal with warm milk to a smooth, runny paste.
  2. 2Stir in the steamed pumpkin or carrot purée for vitamins.
  3. 3Aim for a texture just thicker than milk so baby can lick it off the spoon.
  4. 4Introduce one new vegetable every 3–4 days.

HPB suggests iron-fortified cereal as a typical first food, with veg added for vitamin C to help iron absorption.

Always follow your paediatrician's guidance on allergens and choking-hazard textures. Cook eggs, fish and meat thoroughly and serve food just warm.
